Our Mascot

Cali the Cockatoo embodies each of our strong clinicians.

The cockatoo was a unique creature that was prominent in Bita Ghatan’s loving family. As a whole, these creatures are recognized for being very sweet and affectionate birds. Her original cockatoo even had a yellowish highlight to his white feathers, so this mascot holds a special place in her heart.

Its gender-neutral name derives from an abbreviation of our headquarters location out in California. As a collective, we did not want to classify Cali with a specific gender since we value diversity and inclusion for all. Cali’s heroic costume resembles our clinicians reaching new heights for our families by showing them that we are here to support them each and every day.

Philosophy

The Learning and Behavioral Center of Tarzana is dedicated to providing your child with personal behavior intervention plans that will create a lasting impact on their lives. The center draws upon Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) techniques that are scientifically proven to eliminate unwanted behaviors. A highly trained staff will work closely with your family to ensure your child continues to grow while at the learning center as well as in your home.

ABA therapy emphasizes the importance of empiricism and experimentation. This science-based therapy draws heavily on observations to understand the motivation and functions for certain behavior. According to B.F. Skinner, a founding father of psychology, a repetitive behavior is normally met by various types of reinforcers that encourage the individual to continue a certain behavior. As ABA facilitators, it is necessary to identify the proper time to deliver reinforcers to ensure that we are properly increasing or decreasing the frequency of a behavior.

Applied Behavior Analysis is safe and effective. Exposure to this practice will yield gains in your child’s ability to communicate, socialize, and achieve academically. Researchers are continually studying this field to improve therapy techniques. It is a growing field that is promises improvement in your child’s life.
